About
the Workshop

The Readers-Writers Summer Workshop is a unique
language arts program. Our goal is to create a
stress-free learning environment in which the children's self-esteem is
enhanced and a more positive attitude toward reading and writing is
developed. The children listen to
stories, read, write during writing workshop and participate in exciting,
literacy-related activities planned by the teacher. The average group size is
twelve students.
The children learn as young
children naturally do-with awe, laughter and enjoyment!
-
Week One: The
students are visited by a guest animator (e.g. storyteller,
magician, scientist).
-
Week Two: The
students enjoy a field trip.
-
Week Three:
Parents and friends are invited to an author's tea celebration.
The workshop is a great
place for children to improve language arts skills and for learning
English as a second language.
At the workshop children
will:
-
Read and listen to
stories; read recipes and cook; or maybe participate in readers'
theatre
-
Share stories, ideas
and opinions, book talks or plays
-
Participate in writing
workshops, write a play or group newspaper
The workshop focuses on
the same language arts competencies implemented in your child's
classroom:
-
To read and listen to
children's literature and information-based texts
-
To communicate
appropriately and to use language to learn
-
To write
self-expressive, narrative, and information-based texts
